Interview With Author Bonnie R. Paulson

Today I have an interview with author Bonnie R. Paulson about her life, love of writing, and the new release of her suspense novel Dictating Death.

Hi, Bonnie! We’re happy to have you here, so please tell us a little about yourself.

Thank you so much for having me! I’m a married mom with 6 beautiful children – 5 boys and 1 girl. It’s all about survival and I live it – not just survival regarding the “end of the world as we know it” but surviving everyday calamities and incidents that try to steal my sanity. Reading, dirt biking, and cooking are ways I spend time with my family.

How long have you been writing, and what inspired you to become an author?

I think like all writers, it’s something I’ve been doing my whole life. But the real question is, how long have I been writing and sharing it with the world? Because that is exactly 8 and a half years. I love it. Writing is my one way to connect with what’s in my head. If not, well, let’s just say there’s a definite chance for sanity questions…

My inspiration was a weird one. A lady I didn’t know approached me after Anatomy and Physiology class one day and asked if I would like to be in her critique group. She made it sound like I just HAD to write with her. So I started. I can’t stop. I’m frigging addicted.

What can you tell us about your latest book Dictating Death?

It’s twisted and dark and crazy but a must read for anyone looking for that deeper read. Two women in one body with drastically different goals – if one succeeds another man dies, if the other wins, they die.

What was your inspiration for the book?

I used to be a transcriptionist and one of the doctors I typed for had a very schmexy voice and I was so tired at the time (I had just had a baby {#4 in fact}) and I thought, wouldn’t that be crazy if a transcriptionist stalked her doctors? And it took over from there.

What’s your favorite scene from Dictating Death?

Ooooooh, hehehe. I would have to say the scene where Maria and Samantha realize their true feelings for each other. This is a jacked up scene – it’s not sexual in nature, at least for one of them, but it’s also a point where I realized that each of us has a little bit more than just one person inside. There’s the part of each of us that wants to be good but can’t look away when the bad part of us wants to do something for complete gratification. Yeah… that scene was a blast.

Who’s your favorite character?

Maria. I think she’s more screwed up than she realizes, but she hides it beneath her gruffness and grit. Never a bad thing, right?

How would you describe Samantha and Maria’s relationship with Dr. Luke?

Well, Samantha wants him in carnal and emotional ways and Maria wants to kill him. It really isn’t more complex than that.

Is there any message you would like readers to take away from Dictating Death?

Dark and twisted can be satisfying. And also that it takes all kinds of people to turn this world, which kind are you? Maria? Or Samantha? Or Rebecca?

Do you have any plans for your next project?

Oh yes, I have 10 more books releasing in the next 12 months. My March 27, 2015 release is Resisting Redemption (Book #3 of the Redemption series) and then May 8, 2015 release is Broken Choices, a standalone about more heartache and survival. I do love me some survival! 😉

Thank you so much for having me! This was a blast. You have such great questions. I appreciate this. A question for your readers – do you prefer your darker side or your lighter side?
