E is for Egypt’s Library of Alexandria

I hope you’re enjoying your weekend. It’s day 5 of the A to Z Challenge, and I’m excited about the letter E. Today’s featured bookworm heaven is the Library of Alexandria in Alexandria, Egypt.

Also called the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the building was built in commemoration of the great Library of Alexandria that was burned in antiquity.

The modern Library of Alexandria is not as grand as the original but the building does have enough shelf space to hold 8 million books. Yes, million. There’s also a main reading room that covers 750,000 sq ft. Can you say wow?
